- Saints have lost both of their league games under Nathan Jones.
- Aleksandar Mitrovic has three goals in his last three games for club and country.
Tough start for new Saints boss
Nathan Jones has endured a difficult start to his tenure as Southampton boss and he could be in line for another tricky afternoon at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
Jones’ first game in charge was a 3-1 defeat at Liverpool before he led Saints to a 2-1 EFL Cup win over Lincoln. Saints went down 3-1 at home to Brighton on Boxing Day, and there is a good chance Jones will still be looking for his Premier League points after the final whistle has sounded on Saturday.
Craven Cottage a fortress for Fulham
Fulham sit in ninth spot in the Premier League table with 22 points on the board and their strong first half of the season has largely been down to their success at home.
Newcastle and Manchester United are the only visiting sides to win at Craven Cottage this season, with Fulham managing three wins and three draws from their other six games.
Rock-bottom Saints have lost 10 of their 16 games and each of their last four, while away from home they have six defeats from eight trips – so a home win looks the best bet in this Premier League fixture.
Saints may be good for a goal
Southampton’s issues haven’t necessarily been in attack as they have scored in each of their last five games, with four goals in total in the three games since Jones took charge.
Fulham have conceded in six of their eight home games and have shipped 13 in total at Craven Cottage in the league, so Southampton may at least be able to get on the scoresheet and a 3-1 success for Fulham looks a reasonable correct score bet.
Fulham have scored exactly three goals in three of their last six games, while Saints have scored once in six of their last nine across all competitions.
Aleksandar Mitrovic is the clear candidate for an anytime goal as he was on target against Palace and has scored in his last three games for club and country, having managed two goals in three games for Serbia at the World Cup. Mitrovic will be on penalty duties for Fulham and has scored 10 of his side’s 27 goals in the league this season.
