  • Liverpool have conceded in their last five Premier League matches.
  • Leicester have scored in eight of their last 11 top flight games.
  • Liverpool have won their last two league games 3-1.

Defensive issues remain for Reds

Liverpool bounced back from their Carabao Cup exit on Boxing Day with a relatively comfortable 3-1 win over Aston Villa, but they still have a lot of work to do if they are to break back into the top four.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have now won three consecutive league games to put them back in the hunt but, while their attacking play is back to something resembling its best, their defensive issues remain worrying.

They have conceded four goals in their two games since domestic football resumed, while they are without a clean sheet in five Premier League matches.

Resurgent Leicester hit stumbling block

For Leicester, this is an opportunity to rediscover their pre-World Cup form after a dismal showing on Boxing Day. They were well-beaten at the hands of the excellent Newcastle, ending a four-match unbeaten streak and leaving them 13th in the table after their atrocious start to the campaign.

That being said, this Foxes side are a far cry from the one that started this season and the hierarchy’s faith in Brendan Rodgers seems to have paid off. They have only lost two of their last seven in the league and both defeats came against current top-four sides, while they have scored in eight of their last 11.

High-scoring Liverpool win on the cards

Considering Liverpool’s defensive issues of late, backing both teams to score looks a solid option but I do think the hosts will prevail. They look impressive going forward and Leicester have struggled against the better teams in the division this season, so I’m backing Liverpool and both teams to score alongside a third successive 3-1 win in the league for the favourites.

It is unsurprising that Mohamed Salah’s form has been instrumental in Liverpool’s resurgence and the Egyptian can be backed to find the net again. He has scored seven goals in his last seven appearances and has only failed to find the net once in this sequence.
